A chamber choir and a vocal ensemble, both filled with some of Stockholm’s finest young choral singers, join internationally acclaimed composer and conductor Eric Whitacre for two joint concerts on October 8 in Eric Ericsonhallen.
The grandiose is combined with the intimate when Storkyrkans kammarkör and St. Jacobs Vokalensemble perform works by Whitacre, conducted by himself. The repertoire includes his iconic works Lux Aurumque, Sleep and Water Night.
Eric Whitacre is a Grammy Award-winning American composer and conductor, known for his innovative works in contemporary choral music. His music is performed worldwide, and his groundbreaking virtual choir project has brought together over 100,000 singers from more than 145 countries. He has collaborated with ensembles such as Rundfunkchor Berlin, Voces8 and The King’s Singers, and conducted the London Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.
“Whitacre is that rare thing, a modern composer who is both popular and original” – The Daily Telegraph, London
Storkyrkans Kammarkör, under the direction of Helene Stureborg, consists of 40 young singers, has a repertoire that spans art music from different periods.
St. Jacob’s Vocal Ensemble, led by Mikael Wedar, is a mixed youth choir with just over 30 members. The choir’s performances are characterized by both musical quality and an ability to create a lasting impression on the audience.
The concert is a collaboration between EIC, the Swedish Choirmasters’ Association, the Swedish Choir Association and the Academy of Music and Drama.
